Our Leadership Philosophy

Jesus Christ is the “Senior Pastor” of Apex. We do not look to a staff person or an elder as the head of the church.

We believe that the church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head. The members of the church are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. (Ephesians 1:22-23, 5:24-30; 1st Corinthians 12:4-13,27)

We believe strongly that each believer is chosen to declare the praises of Him who called us out of darkness and into His wonderful light. To empower believers, the Lord has given us the Holy Spirit who works within us to accomplish His work. Therefore, Scripture calls believers a royal priesthood and provides each of us the privilege and authority to allow the Holy Spirit to equip and empower us to accomplish His work. Jesus is the one mediator between God and humans, therefore there are no clergy/laity distinctions in the Body, and every disciple is called to be a minister in the work that God is doing in the world and through His church. (John 14:12-13; 1st Peter 2:9) In practice, we believe that allows all believers to baptize one another, share communion with one another, etc.

We believe that elders should be recognized to oversee the health, doctrine, and affairs of the local church. Elders are more mature brothers in the Lord (independant of their age) who meet the qualifications of an overseer as described in scripture. (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9) Elders do not “rule over” the church but instead should have the attitude of servants to the Body.
